Scalp micropigmentation – a long-lasting and stable colour effect
One question people often ask about scalp micropigmentation is: how long does it last? After your scalp micropigmentation, you’ll be able to enjoy the look of full hair for many years to come. The pigment we use, carbon black, is stable in its colour effect since it only consists of one colour. Over time, however, it does fade. To restore it to 100% intensity, it needs to be refreshed every three to five years.

Refreshing your scalp micropigmentation only requires one session every 3 to 5 years. This session usually only takes 1 to 3 hours.
Why does scalp micropigmentation fade?
It’s totally normal for your micropigmentation to fade over time. Your body naturally expels the pigments little by little. As a result, the thin patches in your hair gradually start to show through again. This same process happens after any professional scalp micropigmentation. Thanks to our extensive experience in scalp micropigmentation, however, we are able to delay it for as long as possible.
It’s impossible to predict exactly how long your scalp micropigmentation will last – your skin, like everyone else’s, is unique. The lifespan of your scalp micropigmentation is also affected by the state of your immune system and external influences such as UV radiation. But by taking good care of your scalp, you can extend the lifespan of your micropigmentation. Basically, what’s good for your skin is good for your micropigmentation. So we recommend good scalp care that’s suitable for your skin type. A refresher session is usually needed every three to five years. This is the interval which, over the course of many years, scalp micropigmentation professionals all over the world have found works best. After the refresher treatment, your scalp micropigmentation will look just the same as when you first had it done.
Tip: We particularly recommend that you use suncream with a high sun protection factor when you’re out in strong or direct sunlight. Of course, you can still get a tan. But you should absolutely avoid getting sunburned.

- The refresher session will take around one to three hours depending on the amount of work required.
- After the treatment your scalp will be slightly red, as it was following the initial treatment. But you’ll be absolutely fine to go out in public.

Refreshing scalp micropigmentation: the costs
Scalp micropigmentation refresher sessions cost a lot less than the initial treatment. This is because the refreshing process takes a lot less time than the initial treatment. The right time to make a refresher appointment is when your scalp micropigmentation has faded to around 70 to 80 percent of its original intensity. During your refresher appointment, the faded 20 to 30 percent will be renewed. In terms of the amount of work involved, this roughly corresponds to one session of the initial treatment. Before the session we’ll estimate approximately how long the refreshing process will take. In our experience, our estimates are very realistic and more likely to be too high than too low. We charge by the hour, so at the end of your session you’ll only pay for the exact amount of time the treatment has taken.
